How do i do it?
I use a percolation technique similar to a French press. Ground herbs are lightly saturated and then compressed in a dropping funnel. The mixture is left to sit for 24 hours before a valve is opened, allowing gravity to slowly draw the liquid down. Once the process is complete, organic coconut glycerin is added. If simmered for 45 minutes, most of the alcohol is removed, (this leaves an ABV of 1%-2%)leaving a tincture that captures the full essence of the plants.
Traditional estimates suggest this method can produce up to 30 times the potency of a standard tincture, though from years of personal use I find the effect is noticeably stronger.
The recommended dose is two droppers, though this can be adjusted depending on the effect desired. It can be taken with a small amount of juice, hot water, or plain water. The tincture has a robust herbal and sweet flavor that is easily taken straight with water.
Everything used in these formulas is organic, down to the coffee filters used for compression. The glycerin is derived from organic coconut rather than vegetable oil, and the cane alcohol comes from certified organic distilleries. Herbs are sourced from India, Canada, and the United States. Products are shipped in biodegradable recycled paper packaging, never plastic.
These herbal formulas are handcrafted with care by Khabir and Malik Southwick, blending traditional knowledge with modern methods to create a tincture that is both powerful and pure..
old revolution
Even into the early 20th century, many medicines were still plant based, even as synthetic chemistry and modern pharmaceuticals were emerging. Modern medicine and scientific advances were intertwined with herbal medicine, this contributed to remarkable breakthroughs, including improved surgical techniques and a dramatic increase in population health.
The rise of pharmaceutical companies and changes in medical education shifted mainstream medicine toward isolated compounds and patentable drugs. Plants became secondary, despite being the original source of many modern drugs. By the 1960s, the herbalist way of life in the West had become far less prominent. 60's 70's is when Doctor John R Christopher was most prominent and one of my biggest inspirations
Today, a resurgence is happening. People are once again seeking balance, sustainability, and natural solutions. What was once overlooked is now being rediscovered, the enduring power of herbs.
Old Revolution Herbals embodies this
movement. Revolution here does not mean upheaval. It means a return to wisdom, a return to balance, a return to the earth. This is the new era of herbalism, shaped for the modern day.
